Biography
California Bay Area artist Gregg Renfrow has exhibited nationally and internationally since the mid 1970s. Renfrow received his BFA from San Francisco Art Institute in 1972. His public collections include the Oakland Museum of California, The Norton Museum of Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Linked to the “Light & Space Movement” (alternatively known as “California Minimalism”) of the 1960s and 1970s that was concerned with how geometric shapes and use of light could affect the environment and perception of the viewer, Gregg Renfrow conveys the ever-changing quality of the California light he has been observing over the course of his 40-plus year career.
Renfrow states “The foundation of my painting practice is the daily exercise of drawing,” he says. “The purpose of drawing is comprehension. In my case, it is the comprehension of the constant flux of the visible world around me as it is revealed by the light.”
